The purpose of this position is to provide Disaster Mental Health (DMH) services to clients and Red Cross workers during preparedness, response, and recovery within a chapter/region.

 

CURRENT DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA - EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 2017

 A. CURRENTLY LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS:

At minimum, holds a master’s degree in one of the mental health professions listed below; and Holds a current, unencumbered license from, or is registered with, any U.S. state or territory as a social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or psychiatrist (any level license/registration, including non-clinical licenses such as Licensed Masters Social Worker or LMSW)

 B. CURRENT SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS AND SCHOOL COUNSELORS:

At minimum, holds a master’s degree in school psychology or school counseling; and Holds a current, unexpired license or certification as a school psychologist or school counselor issued by a state board of education.

C. CURRENT PSYCHIATRIC NURSES:

Have a state license as a registered nurse; and Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a psychiatric setting, verified by a letter from a current or previous employer.

 D. RETIRED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS:

Support the day-to-day activities
within a shelter which may include
working in reception, registration,
feeding, dormitory, information,
or other areas within a shelter.

Preferred Commitment: multiple
local shifts of 4–12 hours each.
For those able to travel outside of
their local area, a commitment of at
least 14 consecutive days, working
8- or 12-hour shifts is required

Help comfort and support people
in your community by meeting any
immediate needs such as food,
shelter, clothing or supplies and
connecting them to long term
recovery services. We supply
all the training you need.

 

Preferred Commitment: 2–4 shifts
per month, 4–6 hours shifts

Use your professional skills as
a licensed healthcare provider
to deliver hands on care and
