Volunteer Position Job Description
Job Title: Fun Run Volunteer
Purpose: Monitor Runners crossing busy intersection
Location:
- Location 1 – Intersection of 3rd and Ave C. Needs to stop traffic going North and South for Runners. Please note this is a very busy intersection. Most Runners will be grouped together for this location, then walkers. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
- Location 2 – Intersection of 3rd and Ave I. This position needs to encourage runners to run on the east side of Ave I. By staying on the east side they will not have to cross busy traffic again until mile later. Please verbally tell runners to try and stay on east side of street. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
- Location 3 – Intersection of Ave I and 18th. This position will need to hand out water to the runners. Please poor water into Dixie Cups. Will have Walmart sacks for trash available. Please verbally encourage runners to stay on north side of 18th Street. This is better to stay out of traffic. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
- Location 4 – Intersection of Ave D and 18th Street. Please note this is a very busy intersection, runners and walkers will be very spread out by this point. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
- Location 5 – Intersection of Main Street and 18th Street. This position will need to hand out water to runners. Please poor water into Dixie Cups. Will have Walmart sacks for trash available. Please verbally encourage runners to stay on the west side of the street for so they do not have to cross traffic. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
- Location 6 – Intersection of University and Main Street. Another busy street but Main Street has the right of way so you should have no trouble moving runners/walkers right along. By this time runners/walkers will be very spread out. Will let you know how many 10K Runners there are. These people run the course twice so you can keep tabs on how many pass you twice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a safe course for runners and walkers.
- Make sure vehicles are aware of runners at intersections.
- Encourage runners to stay on one side of the street.
- Encourage those running and walking that they are doing a great job.
- Make sure runners stay on trail
- On the way to volunteer location, you will need to place signage according to map. You will be responsible for returning signage after race.
Length of Appointment/Time Frame:
Each position has a different length of time needed. Those located towards the beginning of the race will be done before those located around location 6. The whole event will last until 9ish. Once all runners (don’t forget the 10K Runners) have passed you and you have returned the signs, please feel free to stay or leave.
Time Commitment:
6:30 AM – 9 AM
Qualifications:
Must be old enough to drive to volunteer location. If younger, preferably team up with an older individual to help stop traffic.
Dress Code:
Will be standing for long period of times so good supportive shoes and comfortable clothes.
Other:
