The Cambridge Dictionary describes a volunteer as being a person who does something, especially for other people or for an organization, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it.

That is what is so awesome about volunteers - they give of their time and talents without being forced, working to make a difference in their community. Locally, we have so many awesome and fantastic volunteers that give of themselves to the many organizations.

Did you know that we now have 60 organizations that are a part of the Volunteer Action Center? That is 60 options to choose from to volunteer, 60 organizations that could use a helping hand, 60 organizations to learn more about and 60 organizations to share your time and talent with.

Why do you volunteer so much? I have been asked that one question many times. I volunteer because it affords me a chance to give back to my community, to lend a helping a hand to others, to share my passion to help others, to be a positive influence in our local communities, to serve, to learn, to grow and so much more.

Volunteering is such a heartwarming experience and you get to meet so many amazing people that put their heart and soul into what they do.

I encourage everyone to visit volunteerenm.org and look through the site and learn more about the 60 organizations that we have listed so far. Look through the needs and events and see if you could help out. Needs are as easy as collecting grocery bags or toiletries to be donated to assisting with an event or helping out with office work. The needs are plenty and there is always something for everyone to assist with.

Volunteering is a good thing, it will definitely change the way you look and see things, and you learn so much about yourself and your community. Volunteers are often that one piece of the puzzle that an organization needs to keep moving forward and working to help others.

Volunteer today, it will bring a smile to your face and put a pep in your step!

Thank you to the many wonderful and amazing volunteers that give of their time and work tirelessly to make our communities a better place to live, work and play!
